A Happy Gait.

This story takes us back to July 2017, waiting endlessly in a doctor's office. An older gentleman walked in, and his sheer joy completely changed the atmosphere. I love retelling this story of how a moment can change your whole day. I believe this gentleman chooses joy each day, and on this day, I was thankful to be a recipient of it.

I was sitting at my Dr's office waiting (and waiting and waiting) when this older gentleman comes in. He immediately caught my attention because of his gait. He had a very happy gait. He was wearing pressed jeans, a pressed white collared shirt and a hat. I only saw him from the back as he walked by.

The nurse called his name and as he stood to walk toward her, she smiled and said "you look like you are going on vacation." He chuckled back and said "awe, get out of here." AND THEN HE HELD THE DOOR FOR HER, and insisted she go in before him.

I'm still waiting as he walked out. I noticed he was wearing a wooden necklace with carved animals on it. It was gorgeous.

I smiled, and before I could say anything, he said "you look beautiful today." I thought he said "have a beautiful day", so I responded with "Thank you. You have a beautiful day, too!"

He realized I had misunderstood him and he stopped, turned around and said "no. I said you look beautiful today."

He took the time to turn around and make sure I received the sweet compliment he intended. I think a lot of us might not do that. I almost chased him out the door for a hug.

I am willing to bet this man makes a positive impression on everyone he meets. He sure caught my attention and made me smile.

I wonder what his life has been like. I wonder why he has such a happy aura. Maybe some day our paths will cross again and I'll have the opportunity to hear his story.
